Essential Responsibilities: The Crime Analyst provides currently useful information by identifying and analyzing methods of operation of individual criminals, providing crime pattern recognition and providing analysis of data from police reports.  The position provides estimates of future crime trends and assists in the identification of enforcement priorities.  Also, the position customizes statistical reports to aid in connecting suspects, vehicles, offenses, and other crime elements and creates visual displays of the statistical data (i.e. crime maps, graphs, pie charts).  The position develops concise biographical sketches of suspects (suspect profiling); participates in interdepartmental committees relating to projects for selected neighborhoods and/or high crime areas for the purpose of reducing crime; keeps abreast of current developments in crime analysis and statistical compilation methods; exchanges information with other law enforcement agencies comparing patterns and trends; and coordinates and conducts police report writing training.

Job Requirements/Specifications: The position requires considerable knowledge of the practices and techniques of crime research analysis and of police information systems; of related federal, state, and local laws, codes and/or ordinances; and of Incident Based Reporting (IBR) systems.  The position requires completion of the core curriculum for an associate level major in police science and three years experience in police work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Knowledge of database output software products and skill at using Crystal Reports is preferred.

Job Description:

SMS I - Operates light trucks & performs a variety of manual tasks as required, such as patching potholes, clearing roadsides from snow, litter, overgrown grass and brush. Works as a laborer or with other crews when required. 

SMS II – Operates heavier and more complex automotive equipment.  Performs same type of manual tasks as SMS I, except with larger and heavier equipment.  Is responsible for a wider range of maintenance/repair work requiring special training; makes minor equipment repairs.

Both positions require the ability to read, write and understand English; and one (1) year experience in operation of some type of automotive equipment or equivalent experience and education.

Requires possession of a valid Virginia Class B CDL.    Candidates selected for interview ­­­MUST provide DMV transcript of driving record dated within the past 90 days ­­at the­ interview.   Selected candidate must successfully complete a drug and alcohol screening.

May require working rotating shifts during snow or other emergencies.  Work is performed all day, outdoors, and in all weather conditions.  May be exposed  to loud noise, odors, heights, dust, fumes and working with hazardous products such as fluids & petroleum based products.  Candidate must be able to stoop, crouch, walk, pull, lift, grasp, hear, see up close & far away, have depth perception, kneel, reach, push, stand, have finger movement and perform repetitive tasks; be able to lift 75 lbs.

Job Description: The Hopewell Police Department is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of AUXILIARY POLICE OFFICER with the City of Hopewell, Virginia. In service to the community’s population of approximately 22,300 citizens, the qualified candidates shall possess the abilities necessary to respond to and investigate requests for police service including crimes in progress, traffic accidents and other incidents impacting the qualify of life in the community. In addition, the successful candidates shall be required to interact with other Department members, the criminal justice system and citizens in general with the highest level of professionalism and commitment to excellence. Successful candidates must be able to devote a minimum of 20 hours of service per month as well as being subject to call-in for special events and emergencies.

Qualifications: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: 21 years of age, a High School Diploma or GED (Associates Degree or higher preferred), United States Citizenship, possession of a valid Driver’s License and/or the ability to obtain one in the state of Virginia prior to employment, current experience as a law enforcement officer (preferably in Virginia) or the ability to secure certification as a law enforcement officer in the state of Virginia in accordance with the Code of Virginia, successful completion of a written examination, physical agility test, oral interview(s), medical and drug screening, and psychological screening. Further, applicants must have an excellent moral character and background that will withstand a comprehensive background investigation, criminal history check (free of any felonies & misdemeanors) and subsequent polygraph(s).

Performs difficult professional and administrative work in planning, organizing, and supervising a variety of city-wide recreation facilities through operations and maintenance; does related work as required. Supervision is exercised over assigned department personnel.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of all recreational facilities, to include city parks, playgrounds, ball fields, skateboard park, city marina and the community center to ensure the safety and well being of the public.  This includes oversight of inspections, repairs, site constructions, contract management, capital improvements and the like.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years experience in planning and implementation of Park Management to include supervision of staff and managing resources; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Licenses and/or Certifications: VA driver’s license

Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of recreation sports and activities, recreational sports equipment and related facilities maintenance practices, as well as of the principles and administrative practices with public recreation and park services.
  • Knowledge of ground and turf maintenance techniques and equipment.
Thorough knowledge of relevant computer applications, preparation and maintenance of reports and records.
